Ayurveda believes in utilizing the benefits of whole natural foods for fighting the flu and keeping it away. The most important food based boosters in Ayurveda are Turmeric, Tulsi (Holy Basil), and Amalaki (Indian Gooseberry).
Known as the king of spices, Turmeric is well known for its anti-inflammatory agent, with high concentration of carcumin, which not only helps deal with inflammation but also to build immunity.
Tulsi (Holy Basil) is the queen of herbs known for powerful healing properties. Today, it is used in many natural vitamins and supplements. Holy Basil can be found in tea form or in capsules. The fresh herbs are found in India where many traditional homes also grow them in their backyard and use the leaves to make a daily tea.
Amalaki- known as the Indian gooseberry is a tart berry available in dry powder form all year and in the fresh form in winter. This berry is extremely potent in vitamin C and antioxidants. It can be added to juices as a powder or squeezed fresh in winter.

1 teaspoon organic turmeric powder
1-2 teaspoon honey
1-2 tablespoon warm water
Mix with a spoon until you form a paste (add more hot water if needed) and lick it off the spoon just before bedtime. OR Add enough water to transform the paste into a thick liquid form, and enjoy it as a shot before bedtime.
This soother lines the throat allowing it to rest and heal at night, and also serves as an immune booster.
Homemade Turmeric Tea Boil 2-3 cups of water with fresh ginger slices for 10 mins. Take off heat, add 2 teaspoons of organic turmeric powder, a pinch of black pepper, and honey to taste. Strain and sip before bedtime.

1/2 lemon or amla powder
200ml warm water
1 teaspoon honey
Mix the above ingredients together and drink it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
